I just finished this for my friend Sky recently. It's a 7'6" x 18 1/2" x 2 1/2" semi-gun. He surfed it in head high Carmel Beach and got barreled on his second wave. He's still waiting on some big waves to see how it really works. It's mostly Paulownia with Redwood pinlines.
Hi mate , nice job on the board. If you have any construction pics and story I would like to post it on my blog. What is your email as it is not on your profile.

Well then.... This is Sky who was so lucky to receive this piece of surfable art! I have been surfing for 30 years this year, semi-pro all around the world nothing but surfing, breathing and being, this board is a crossroads for me. Kev brought over a 7'6" M10 that a friend of his lent him as a possible templet for the board we had been scheming over. I am blown away at Kev's ability to copy that board! Hands down blown away! This board in the photos is lighter than the original foam board and paddles like a champ! I just surfed it in double to triple overhead Waddel south swell and it was like a pair of old broken in leather shoes! An extension of my body. Kev had warned me that it may sound different because of the chatter an hallow body, but since he put foam behind the fin boxes I didn't notice any difference between this board and a standard foam board. I do want to bring up two things. One is that we all know that feeling of ducking under a grinder only to come up the other side in the churning swirlies that make it hard to get back on your board and keep paddling right away. This board seemed to bounce back from that right away and paddle over the currents that would normally pull me down for a few seconds before letting me go? I don't know why but I do know it happened. Another is that the board paddles very well and duck dives like a champ! Ten foot balls of whitewatter over my head like a summer day at the point? Again, I don't know why but I do know it happened again and again. The one and only thing I would change in hind sight would be a bit more rocker in the nose. I took some serious water up the nose after pearling on a few mackers. On this point it could also be that I am a bit out of shape and my paddling weakness kept me too high on the take offs? Kev did tell me that he made it without as much rocker as the original. All and all the second favorite board I have ever had (many). I just wish there was a swell every day to warrant riding it. So I think I will get a short board as soon as I can trade in my CI (gladly). I haven't walked by a single person with this board who has not taken a second look. I am a believer and Kev"s board will only be getting better than this?? Is it possible? Sky
I love how this one looks!

ReplyDeleteWow! I'm glad you're having such a good time with it. The suspense was killing me - glad we got some sizable waves to really give it the test!
